It's with a heavy heart that, after over 21 years of involvement with The Never-ending Story and doing my small part in getting this site going, I will be taking my leave. I've unfortunately run out of steam, and if the NeS and The Plothole are to have any chance of continuing on, it can't have me dragging it down. I truly apologize for any and all the troubles I've caused, and I'm deeply thankful for everyone who has been involved in my life thanks to this story that kept living up to its name. As an amateur writer, I'm failing to know how to put to words what this story and community has meant to me, something that's been part of my whole adult life. I sincerely hope the NeS and the Plothole thrive for another 21 years and more!

WIth all that said, I will be removing my administrator privileges and leave this site in the hands of Al Ciao and The Britt, who have frankly done more than I have for years now. I'll be doing the same for the Facebook group. If there are further things that need to be transferred, I will do that as well.

Any and all threads, characters, story ideas, etc. that may have ever had been "mine" are now completely out for public use. Furthermore, here are some thoughts I had that anyone can use or not use at their whim:

Char: I made it a point to refrain from diving too much into things I had in mind for them since I ultimately wanted Char to become more a 'shared' character. I did think it was very important that their non-binary gender status be cemented, though, as I felt it was important not just for their character but to help further represent NeS and the Plothole as an inclusive group. As a cisgender male, I did my best to research and reach out to non-binary friends to do as good of a job writing such a character as I could, and I can only hope that I've done well enough. I made Char a forgetful robot because I enjoy writing and reading characters who play off type, but also because I've found my own forgetfulness to be a challenge and because I had aspirations that Char could be the 'constant' in an ever-evolving narrative. I really did not plan out any ideas for their mysterious past, though I suspect they have some darker past in the military antithetical to their current life as a pacifist healer.

P.I. Funguy: I wrote them into Hero Force partially to fill personality and skill gaps I thought were present, partially because I thought writing a founding member who was a "joke" like early iterations of Aquaman was interesting, and partially because I thought it'd help. Beyond once having a sidekick who now works for a rival hero group, I was actually struggling to come up with much to write for them.

The Coordination and the Omega Reich: In short, I wanted the Coordination to not be a monolithic empire defined by power or conquest but distinct groups that rejected traditional notions of power and only grew by those who actually want to be a part of it, even going so far as to reject those that don't adhere to the Coordination's principles. The Omega Reich, by contrast, was to be almost a parody of "the most powerful" and display why that sentiment becomes self-defeating.

For the above, and more, you can see notes I had here:

I can be reached for anything by email -- it's just my username at Gmail -- or other means outside this forum.

I sincerely hope the NeS and the Plothole thrive for another 21 years, and more!

I'm sorry you feel this way and sorry to see you go. You're always welcome if and whenever you change your mind.

I love NeS (both the main thread and the spinoffs), but I admit that I've not put forth nearly as much effort into it as I would've liked, given my various other priorities.
